1961 Fleer Baseball Greats

I was a Sophomore at Penn State in 1961 when Fleer released their Baseball Greats set.

By that time, I was way more interested in girls than in baseball. And my mother had thrown out all my baseball cards from the 1950s as mothers did back then, and I didn’t really care about that for at least another ten years or so, when I was looking around for cards to use in the book I was writing with Brendan Boyd: The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading And Bubblegum Book..

I remember these cards being very reasonably priced back in the late 1980s when I launched my sports collectibles business, and I really liked the design and colors. I suspect the pricing has increased significantly since then, in the midst of the current sports card bubble.
